World's Largest Ant Nest

Check out this amazing video the world's largest ants nest.  Back in 2002, Swiss, French and Danish scientist discovered the largest cooperative unit of ants ever recorded in history. The ant colony is 3,600 miles long, stretching from the Italian Riviera to northwest Spain. Billions of Argentine ants call this colony home. The most unique part about this colony of ants is that there is more than one nest with different queens all working together and not fighting like other nests would normally do.

Richard D. Fell an entomologist at Virginia Polytechnic Institute stated that Argentine has been known to form large colonies but none as large as this find.

"It may be that certain ant colonies will bud off, form satellites and remain connected with one main colony," suggested Fell.
