A cool collection of space shuttle launch pictures from NASA. To experience a shuttle launch is a truly amazing experience and hopefully these pictures go some way in demonstrating this, one of the coolest man-made spectacles.
You can now witness for yourself what it's like to blast off into space and experience a shuttle launch at NASA Kennedy Space Center:
A collection of pictures and videos of Dubai and the mind blowing change seen in the region in the last decade. Here is a picture of Dubai in 1990 prior to the investment and building work that's featured further down in this post.

Here is a Dubai picture take last year. It is said that Dubai has approximately 25% of the world cranes!
Dubai Waterfront
The Dubai Waterfront (now known as Waterfront) is expected to become the largest waterfront and largest man-made development in the world. The project is a cool combination of canals and artificial islands and will occupy the last remaining Persian Gulf coastline of Dubai.
It will consist of a series of zones with mixed use including commercial, residential, resort, and amenity areas....if you have played Sim City on your computer then you will get the idea!
The vision of the project is "to create a world-class destination for residents, visitors and businesses in the world's fastest growing city. Waterfront will add more than 70 kilometres to Dubai's coastline. It will encompass an area of 1.4 billion square feet of water and land developments. It is expected to house an estimated population of 1.5 million people.
Burj Dubai
Construction began on the Burj Dubai in 2005 and to date is still not finished (end of 2009 expected). At an estimated height of over 800 meters, it will easily be world's tallest building when finished. It will be almost 40% taller than the the current tallest building, the Taipei 101.
The total budget for the Burj Dubai project is about US$4.1 billion, and for the entire new "Downtown Dubai", US$20 billion. Mohamed Ali Alabbar, the CEO of Emaar Properties, speaking at the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat 8th World Congress, said that the price of office space at Burj Dubai had reached US$4,000 per sq ft (over US$43,000 per m2) and that the Armani Residences, also in Burj Dubai, were selling for US$3,500 per sq ft (over US$37,500 per m2)
However, not sure a stay in the Burj Dubai during a lightening strike is recommended as couple of pictures show!
Here is the most recent photo of the Burj Dubai, pictured in August 2009
Here is a video of the Burj Dubai on New Years Eve 2009.
Dubai, The World
Dubai, The World, is a stunning feat of man made engineering. Built on an epic scale, with over 300 islands, 386 million tons of rock, with a 232 kilometres of coastline is a world unlike any of us have known.
The World, Dubai offers a boating paradise with it's combination of water taxis and public and private marinas. Four major hubs provide convenient shopping amenities and facilities within minutes meaning you only have to leave The World when you choose to.
Envisioned and created by Dubai based Nakheel, one of the world's largest property developers the final stone was laid on 10th January 2008 signalling the completion of the first phase of development.
The world has literally risen from the sea and sand to meet the sky. Terraforming allows a completely unique configuration of private beaches, harbours, coves, and marinas unlike anywhere else on earth.
