We've featured the
world's most expensive homes from around the world on a number of occasions but today we feature the
amazing homes of World Leaders.
Nicolas Sarkozy – The Elysee Palace, Paris
Nicloas Sarkozy, the current French President, resides in the decadent and imposing Elysee Palace, which is situated in the French capital Paris. Located just a short walk from the famous Champs-Elysees monument, the palace is in close proximity to the centre of the city. The building of the Palace was completed in 1922 and was designed by the architect Armand-Claude Mollet. The palace is often used as a venue to entertain visiting dignitaries, with 1 million Euros – more than even the most affluent Parisians
mortgage - spent per year on drinks for the guests of the palace.
Naoto Kan – Kantei, Tokyo
Japan’s current Prime Minister, Naoto Ken, has a very different but still equally impressive official residence to Mr Sarkozy, the Kantei. The Kantei is located in Tokyo and came into use in 2002, replacing the previous Kantei which had been used since 1929 by the Japanese Prime Minister. Its relative youth compared to the residences of other World Leaders is evident in its radical art-deco styling, which harks back to the style of American architect Frank Lloyd Wright – who was said to have been an inspiration to the architect behind the new Kantei, Muraji Shimomoto.
David Cameron – 10 Downing Street, London
Described by Margaret Thatcher in 1985 as “one of the most precious jewels in the national heritage” number 10 Downing Street has been the official residence of the Prime Minister since the 18th Century. Situated in the City of Westminster, London, 10 Downing Street is one of the most well known World Leaders residences, comprising of around 100 rooms, with the Prime Ministers private residence situated on the third floor of the building. Its trademark black front door is its most iconic feature, outside of which many important speeches have been made in its 300 year history.
