Summer may be over, but that doesn’t mean taking a holiday has to end! Autumn is the perfect time of year to take a weekend trip. Plan your trip a few days ahead, you will save time and save money along the way by knowing exactly where you are headed and what to expect. People tend to take holidays more in the summer, so you will save money along the way  and enjoy your destinations without all the hustle and bustle of too many tourists! Here are ten Autumn escapes in Europe to consider.

1. Munich, Germany

Oktoberfest is really all that needs to be said. The perfect trip for the beer lover, with many of activities and events for all family members. If you miss the Oktoberfest, which runs mid-September to early October, you can still enjoy the wine festivals during this harvest season.

2. Alicante, Spain

Known for its breathtaking skies, palm tree-lined boulevard and shopping locations, Alicante is the perfect retreat. This town offers the best in beaches, historical buildings and harbour.


3. Emilia Romagna, Italy

This region is known for its beautiful changing colours of the fall leaves. There are festivals to attend with good food, wine and entertainment.

 

4. Paris, France

Why wait for spring? Paris in the fall is just as busy and beautiful. The crowd has thinned out, yet most museums and attractions are still open for business, and you can truly enjoy this thriving city.

 

5. Lavaux Vineyard Terraces, Switzerland

Along the northern shores of Lake Geneva, at the lower mountain slopes, sits this town. The autumn vineyards here, established by monks in the 11th century, draw a tourist crowd. Most people in attendance are here to hike and bike ride, making it a wonderful destination to relax and get some exercise in the same visit.

 

6. Vienna, Austria

The nice thing about this town is there are plenty of fall colours to enjoy if you catch the last of the sunshine, and there is also plenty to keep you busy if it rains. During the fall season there is a contemporary music shows, called the Wien modern and the Viennale, an independent film festival.

 

7. Sardinia, Italy

Come take part in the Autunno in Barbagia. This autumn event runs from early September to mid-December. The event covers twenty-six towns and villages and offers art, crafts, food and wine throughout the streets.

 

8. Parma, Italy

If you love ham, travel in September to catch the Parma Ham Festival. You can feast on many delicious dishes from hundreds of vendors. If you miss this event, during the month of October visit the Verdi Festival. Opera lovers will love this month long festival of operas in and around the city of Parma.

 

9. Algarve, Portugal

You often can still find a little fun in the sun in this town. People are still enjoying the beach and water in September and October.

 

10. Saint. Tropez, France

You may spot some famous faces at the Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez, the exclusive and famous yachting event held in late September to early October.
