How to make your morning commute enjoyable

For most workers, the days of working entirely remotely are in the past and you’re likely having to regularly commute into the office once again.

And while it may not be every day of the week, it can still take a decent chunk of time out of your day. It’s therefore important to ensure you feel like you’re making the most of the journey and enjoying yourself.

We’ve put together a few ideas that could help you have a better time while you travel to work.

Read a book

There’s nothing quite like losing yourself in a good book, particularly if you’ve got a longer commute. With the right story in your hands, you’ll barely notice the time passing as you make your way to the office.

If you’d rather not have to lug a book around with you all day, you can easily download e-books on your tablet or phone. There are a host of free e-books out there, many of which are considered all-time greats. Ever wanted to read Moby Dick, The Great Gatsby, or Pride and Prejudice? Now’s your chance!

Grab a coffee or breakfast

It can be tough to function in the early hours if you’ve not had some caffeine and something to eat.

A coffee made by a trained barista tastes so much better than an instant one made in your kitchen, so it’s an easy way to make your journey more enjoyable.

Pairing it with a pastry is a bonus, but you can always take something from home to chow down on when you’ve got to your seat – sometimes the simplest of pleasures are the best.

Learn a language

With the number of apps available to download, it’s never been easier to learn a new language. For the self-conscious, there are plenty of options that allow you to avoid speaking exercises whenever you want.

Whether you’ve got a holiday coming up and you’d like to learn some of the local lingo or there’s a country that’s always fascinated you, it’s a great way to pass the time.

Listen to new music or a podcast

It’s easy to fall into a rut when it comes to music and podcasts, where none of your usuals really suit the mood you’re in – or you’re just a bit bored of them.

Spotify tailors playlists to your interests, so you always have an option to listen to something new. It will also offer suggested podcasts based on what you’ve been listening to. This functionality is available to free members as well as those with a paid subscription.

Invest in some noise-cancelling headphones and tune into some of the latest releases.
