LED walls: LED technology screens for multimedia content

LED walls

LED walls are large LED technology screens made up of several panels (also called ’tiles’), capable of reproducing images, dynamic videos and multimedia content as if they were computer monitors and without any visible joints between the various panels.

These are huge light walls (made up of light-emitting diodes) that are perfectly visible even from a huge distance and in any weather and lighting conditions (day and night). They are used in many outdoor applications (in airports, advertising, automotive, sports, information, railways, etc.) and indoor applications (indoor events, shopping centres, shops, showrooms, TV studios, etc.).

LED screen wall systems are available in different models, with technical characteristics that differ in terms of IP rating, brightness, power consumption, size, LED type, refresh rate, pixel pitch and access for maintenance (front and/or rear). The choice depends on where you want to install them and your communication needs.

LED walls: the main features

Ledwalls have very specific characteristics, starting with their size, which can range from less than a metre to hundreds of square metres. Another key characteristic is the “pixel pitch“, in other words the distance in millimetres between the centre of a pixel (composed of 3 LEDs, red, green and blue) and the centre of the adjacent pixel: the closer the pixels are, the greater the definition obtained. In the latest generation of LED walls, the pixel pitches are less than a millimetre, thus guaranteeing a level of definition almost entirely similar to LCD or OLED.

Then of course there is the additional advantage of the modular system, which makes it possible to compose large screens by combining several basic modules, and the great robustness, as the panels that make up the LED screens are solid, long-lasting and resistant to atmospheric agents. In addition, LED screens are very bright and offer exceptional contrast and image quality, guaranteeing continuous and stable performance over time.
Finally, they can be configured in different shapes and sizes, offering flexibility and ample room for creativity in visualisation design, and can also be remotely controlled and updated in real time.

LED walls: technology and applications

Ledwalls are distinguished in both SMD and DIP technology. In the former, ideal especially for indoor applications, the LEDs present the three colours (red, green and blue RGB) on a single chip for superior contrast and perfect colour brilliance.

In DIP technology, on the other hand, the LEDs present the three colours separately and each LED, in the shape of a triangle, can only generate one colour. This technology is used for large outdoor installations.
LED walls are today a fundamental tool for many applications such as those in the fields of marketing and advertising, live events, art installations, information, transport, sport and public lighting (projection of images on buildings or historical monuments). They are also essential for transmitting messages and data in real time, passing on content, advertising products and services and creating unique and highly engaging visual effects.
